Cramps?... :/ please girls help me. ?

Is it normal to cramp so bad that you almost start crying? When I'm on my period, I will wake up in the middle of the night and stay up for the rest of the night unless I take a pain reliever. Should I go to the doctor? I honestly don't think it's supposed to hurt this badly. D':
