Question about hitler?

i was told by one of my teachers that during a war, i think it was wwi or something that there was an undercover officer who was patrolling the boundaries and saw hitler and let him p and that he couldnt kill him because he didnt want to blow his cover. because if he did kill him nothing would have happened by hitler. so if you know or get what im trying to say please let me know
